things that go bump in the night [Nov. 22nd, 2006|01:20 pm]

A big crashing noise woke me up in the wee hours this morning. My house shook. I thought it was an earthquake until I turned the radio on and heard it was an explosion in Danvers. It registered 0.5 on the Richter scale at the Weston Observatory. It took me awhile to get back to sleep.

Of course, Governor I've-Got-Great-Hair-and-Live-in-Utah (lame duck) is live on the scene in Danvers trying to look presidential or at least look Giulianiesque. It's convenient for him that he happened to be in town on a rare break from his presidential campaign to address the disaster. I must say he got FEMA there darn fast. I'm assuming he'll take credit for getting the Coast Guard there fast too but I suspect the Coast Guard was on the scene before the soon-to-be-ex Governor was even awakened. It's fascinating to watch in action, especially now that we have an incoming governor lined up who has actually noticed that he's in charge of Massachusetts.
